Ashbourne is one of the finest old market towns in Derbyshire, combining a medieval street pattern and historic buildings with a wealth of high quality shops. Ashbourne is renowned for its independent ladies boutiques, antique shops, bistros and speciality food shops. Clustered around the historic market place and along the main streets of the town they offer a delightful shopping experience. The market still takes place every Thursday and Saturday throughout the year, continuing a long tradition dating back to 1257 when the town was granted a charter to allow stalls in the market place. Ashbourne is a Fairtrade Town which means that Fair Trade products are widely available in the town's shops, cafes and restaurants.
